Tamworth youngsters to meet 40 employers at careers event

Tamworth youngsters will be finding out about exciting careers opportunities in growth sectors such as advanced manufacturing at a special event at the Landau Forte Tamworth Sixth Form on Friday, July 7.

More than 800 pupils from seven schools in and around Tamworth will be attending the careers event, which has been organised by the Stoke-on-Trent and Staffordshire Local Enterprise Partnership and the Landau Forte Trust.

The careers day has been built around the LEP’s priority growth areas for the region, which include the automotive and aeronautical sectors, medical technologies, energy generation, advanced materials science, agri-tech, business and professional services and the digital and creative sector

More than 40 employers will have displays at the event, along with nine training providers and 12 higher education and further education bodies. The employers attending include JCB, BMW, Redrow, Nationwide, Amazon, Cap Gemini and Burton Albion.

The schools attending are: Landau Forte Sixth Form; Landau Forte QEMS; Landau Forte Amington; Rawlett; Two Rivers; Wilnecote, and the Tamworth Enterprise College.

Stoke-on-Trent and Staffordshire LEP employment and skills board chairman Ken Stepney commented: “We have a great line-up of employers and training providers and this will be a marvellous opportunity for young people to find out more about the wide range of career and further education options open to them.

“The LEP is making good progress in bringing more and better jobs to our region and raising skills levels so that we can create a thriving economy and flourishing local communities. Making full use of the skills and talents of our young people will be key to achieving our ambitions.”
