What will our LIS look like?
The aim of the SSLEP Local Industrial Strategy is to set out a blueprint for driving economic growth and productivity in our area. It is an important next step for the LEP and partners, building on the Strategic Economic Plan update we published last April.
The LIS will be our pitch to Government for investment and will focus on the sectors and opportunities which will lead to the highest boost to productivity in growth.
It will provide a detailed snapshot of the business environment across the region which will be evidence based, using workshops and interviews to build a close understanding of business activity in the region. We will speaking to business, HE/FE and public sector leaders to understand conditions ‘on the ground’ in the region. This is collaborative and iterative piece of work, and we will be contacting you in due course to let you know how you can engage and to get your views.
To support us in this work we have retained leading economic consultancy Metro Dynamics. They have worked across the UK on economic strategies and are experienced at working with businesses, local stakeholders and Government.
Government has asked us to complete this work by Spring 2020.
Liz Barnes, Vice Chancellor of Staffordshire University and LEP board member, explains how we are developing the Local Industrial Strategy and how further education establishments are contributing here.
