LEP AND HCA HOST HOUSING DEVELOPMENT EVENT

Delivering the right housing in the right places for local people to benefit is a crucial element in ensuring a successful and stable economy in Stoke-on-Trent and Staffordshire.

And Stoke-on-Trent and Staffordshire LEP welcomed more than 70 builders, developers, landowners and representatives of housing associations and local authorities to a joint seminar with the Homes and Communities Agency (HCA) to look at the assistance available in getting schemes off the ground.

The ‘Opening The Door for Housing Development’ event on September 16 at Stafford’s Gatehouse Theatre featured presentations on the support the LEP, Stoke-on-Trent City Council, the Staffordshire local authorities, Homes and Communities Agency and Lloyds Bank can provide to assist housing development in the area.

There are support opportunities for all sizes of developers in our area to get projects ranging in size from five homes upwards off the ground, with a range of sites and investment options available, including loans towards infrastructure development and building projects, and grant aid.

Delegates had the opportunity to discuss ideas and projects directly with experts and give their views on how the LEP and its partners can help future projects succeed.

The event was also the launch platform for the Stoke-on-Trent Housing Zone which aims to increase housing delivery in the heart of Stoke by helping developers access finance and a range of other support initiatives. The aim is to transform eight brownfield sites with up to 1,200 new homes

Speakers at the event included Councillor Patrick Farrington, leader of Stafford Borough Council, Christine Addison, HCA regional director, Carl Brazier, Stoke-on-Trent City Council housing director, Gareth Blacker and Rob Freer, representing HCA-I, the HCA’s finance arm, and Rob Boucherat, deputy principal of South Staffordshire College.
