Huge town centre transformation opportunity presented to developers at leading national investor event

An exciting opportunity for a developer partner to help transform a Staffordshire town centre through a £30million regeneration project was presented on Tuesday May 16 at the UK’s top investor event.

Stafford’s Eastgate Regeneration Quarter scheme will see the redevelopment of vacant buildings and land in the heart of the county town into a residential led mixed use project.

Launched at UK Real Estate Infrastructure and Investment (UKREiiF) Conference – interested developers will be able to realise the potential for future use of prime town centre land across two zones.

Much of the property is in the ownership of the county council, which has removed land assembly challenges which often restrict development. The county council purchased redundant property in the area – including the former magistrates court – as part of the process.

Staffordshire County Council is working with Stafford Borough Council and other partners on the project. Together they have delivered or are planning several town centre transformation projects which are interlinked. Developers will be asked to bring their vision for the Eastgate Regeneration Quarter and how it will integrate with the other schemes.

Staffordshire County Council’s deputy leader and cabinet member for economy and skills Philip White said:

As the county town, Stafford’s future regeneration and how we reshape its centre is hugely important to us, our communities and businesses. The regeneration of the Eastgate Quarter will play a vital part in that process, offering significant potential in a key central location.

It offers us and our development partner a once in a generation opportunity to support the long-term transformation of the town centre.

One of our strategic priorities is to work with our borough and district colleagues to transform our town centres, making them welcoming places with distinct identities where people will want to come to live, work, visit and invest. We look forward to our development partner working with us to make this happen in Stafford.

Major schemes include the recent transformation of the Shire Hall building in the town’s Market Square, the Market Square itself which is currently undergoing redevelopment, Future High Street progamme and the planned Stafford Gateway project to regenerate the area around the railway station.

Recently completed projects include the Victoria Park redevelopment and multi-million-pound Stafford western access route, enabling development and easing town centre congestion.
